all the gym leaders from gen I-V (save koga and wallace) by type.
it's worth mentioning that kanto and johto are the only consecutive regions that don't have a repeating type, totally to 16 types from the getgo.
II-III--flying, fighting, normal
III-IV--rock, fighting, water, electric
IV-V--water/grass (depending on starter), electric, ice
IV-V2--electric, water
having said that, both water and electric are the two most recurring types with a total of four gym leaders each, and no type has only one gym leader.
lastly, there has yet been a dark type gym. I don't know why. i know that roughly around a few weeks before 4th gen was released to america, i came up with my own pokemon games for my own gen V (gen VII now,since there's X and Y), and my game has a dark type gym leader, and the first ever grass type elite four member.

Karen, Sidney, and Grimsley were all propably Dark Gym Leaders at one point (unless they were Frontier Brains or Trial Captains\Kahuna but that's somewhat doubtful) but they're E4 by the time the player characters challenge them in the league.
